UNC Asheville offers both a major and minor in Global Studies, allowing undergraduates to pursue an interdisciplinary understanding of global affairs. The goal of the Global Studies major is to provide students with a deeper knowledge of and appreciation for the diverse cultures, economies and politics of the world. The International Studies major is of value to students seeking careers in a number of fields, such as government, business, environmental studies, law, journalism and teaching. It provides an excellent background for those interested in working for government agencies, non-governmental organizations such as the United Nations, and private voluntary and humanitarian organizations.
Global Studies at UNC Asheville enhances and enriches students’ field of study by incorporating a global and interdisciplinary perspective into their intellectual repertoire. This provides a solid grounding in intercultural skills and foundations of global citizenship. Students pursuing the major or minor select courses that have substantial global content from multiple disciplines. Students participating in UNC Asheville-approved study abroad programs may apply appropriate overseas study credits with the approval of the department chair. These courses must be approved prior to the student’s study abroad experience.
