Prior and during his tenure at UNCA, Philip Shive '08 was an in-house talent buyer for a music venue in Charlotte in addition to regionally promoting concerts. An internship and stint cutting his teeth at a well-established booking agency his senior year inspired Philip to start his own booking and talent management agency, Voice of Pizza, in which he carried over the name of his public access show. The early days of VOP were not limited to artist booking and management as he continued to independently promote concerts in addition to partnering with Scion to produce the Haunted Puttluck Show Series, a concert series which brought acts such as Hunx and His Punx, Ceremony, and Forgetters to a haunted house and 3D blacklight minigolf in Belmont, NC. In 2016 Philip made his full-service boutique booking and management agency his fulltime gig, handling everything from accounting, concert booking, merchandise design and show production to VJing, playing in backing band and testing his artist’s drinks and food for ruffies and poison. He has a niche for developing outsider artists and YouTube personalities into a live show format that can tour as seen on his first SXSW showcase this year. He’s worked with Vermin Supreme, Matthew Silver, Froggy Fresh, and Adult Swim’s David Liebe Hart and James Quall among others, having booked these clients on events as diverse as Carnegie Mellon, SXSW, TV appearances, comicons and the Gathering of the Juggalos. He also owns and operates shittywares.com: an outlet for his artist’s merchandise and his postmodern-novelty items.
